You might might want to fix a meal or two
in your furnished kitchen.
But don't forget to enjoy the Island's restaurants.

Here are some of our favorite eateries.
El Cameron Loco
18th and Seawall. 763-2655
We had cheese and chicken enchalades. They gave us large servings for less than $7 each. The service was great and so was the food.

El Gusto Del Pueblo3714 Broadway. 763-0410
Good Mexican food at reasonable prices. The barbaboa and menudo are great on the weekends. Delivery available

Fish Tales
25th and Seawall. 763-2726
We had the Seafood Platter ($17.95) and the Shrimp quesodillas ($9.95) and a couple of appetizers, all were good. Great view on the deck.

Kelly's
4606 Gulf Freeway (at exit 12), Texas City, 935-5734
Good home-style food. Lunch $5.99. Supper $6.99. Specials come with one entree, three vegetables, cornbrad and rolls. This is good old-timey food at great prices.

Los Compas
2314 45th, 762-1140
Their barbacoa is some of the best we have tasted. The menudo is good, too. Servings are a bit small, but the quality is good. It is also one of the few places that is open during the Beach Party weekend. (Otherwise, we prefer Taqueria Juarez.)

Mario's
7th and Seawall. 763-1693
Mario's has a great lunch buffet. We have also enjoyed many meals from their delivery menu, which is not limited to pizza. You might consider starting with their Fried Calamari appetizer ($5.50), it was great. In our opinion, the Seafood Stuffed Mushroom appetizer ($5.95) left a lot to be desired. Let us know what you think. We have also had the Lasagna Dinner for 2 ($14.99 with coupon); delicious and comes with a large salad and bread. And they have some of the best pizza in Galveston. We have had their 10 topping special ($12.99 with coupon). They put lots of toppings on it. The whole muffaletta ($8.95) feeds 2-4 people. Be hungry. Be very hungry.

Miller's Landing
1824 Seawall (2 blocks away) 763-8777
They have a great 16 shrimp dinner for $7.95 on Wednesdays or weekdays (depending on the time of the year). However, we think the softshell crabs are not very good.

Papa John's
6028 Stewart Rd. 741-7272
Although I like their pizza, their drivers never seem to be able to figure out where to deliver the pizza. They will knock on every door before coming to the back gate as instructed. Still, we're glad when thy're knocking on our door!

Papa's Pizza
4100 Seawall. 766-7272
Food is good, and service has improved greatly. We like their muffaletta ($8.95 for a whole), and their pizza is good. But we like Mario's muffaleta and pizza better.

Queen's Barbecue 3428 Avenue S, 762-3151
The best barbecue in Galveston (in our opinion). What more can we say?

Reef Seafood House1301 311/2 Street North, Texas City, 945-6151
Good all-you-cal-eat fried dinner with up to three entrees for $18.95. I love their frog legs. They also have great grilled seafood.

Salsa's
4604 Seawall. 621-2630
Good Mexican food and $2 Margaritas during happy hour (3-6 M-F)

The Spot
3202 Seawall. 621-3500
They are a lot like Fudrucker's. Large burgers and you add the fixings, for under $5. Share the large order of onion rings with a friend or two.

Sunflower Bakery
16th and Church. 763-5500
AVOID THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU WANT TO GAIN WEIGHT!!! They have cheesecake, cream puffs and a few other items for only $1.25 a slice, pecan pie dipped in chocolate, very deadly, for only $2 a slice. We have never had the sandwiches, but based on their deserts, I am sure they are good. I only take $10 with me when I go, just to resist the temptation of spending more!

Taqueria Juarez
1424 Strand. 762-0019
Great breakfast burritos. Never had anything bad. They serve menudo and barbacoa on the weekends. Delivery available.
